Who Needs a License?
A person needs a real estate license if they provide assistance which is in any way intended to result in the sale or lease of real estate. The Real Estate License Act provides eleven examples of the types of "assistance" that require a real estate license. Included are: representing clients in the negotiation of real estate sales contracts or leases, and issuing advertisements for the sale, purchase or lease of real estate. The assistance must be provided for others. Accordingly, a person who buys, sells or leases real estate as a "principal" does not need a real estate license. Compensation is required. Therefore, a person who provides assistance on a real estate transaction to a friend or relative, without compensation, does not need a license.

Where Do I Start?
Complete our Real Estate Transaction Course (pre-license course)
This is the mandatory basic course for all salespeople. Successful completion fulfills the Illinois 45 hour pre-licensing education requirement. Material and courses are updated to insure that instruction is meaningful, relevant and timely. Our program is geared to adult learning.

Attendance Requirements
School policy requires all absences up to 10% must be made up. If more than 10% of a single course is missed, it shall result in automatic failure. Course completion requires a minimum of 75% or higher on the final exam.

What If I Change My Mind?
Our Refund Policy requires a written cancellation of enrollment received by the branch within two days of the class start date for a full refund. No refund will be issued after the class begins.

What Happens If I Don't Pass?
You will receive one free re-take exam and/or repeat the course within one year on a space-available basis at no additional tuition.

How Do I Become Licensed?
In addition to completing the 45 hour Transactions Course, a salesperson is required to meet the following conditions:

  • Be 21 years of age (or 18 if he/she has satisfied certain post-secondary school requirements)
  • Be sponsored by a licensed broker
  • Pass the State Licensing Exam
