About the Community: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast has been home to some of Chicago's most prominent citizens, finest amenities, and historic architecture for over 130 years. Located between the Lake Michigan shore and LaSalle Street, just north of the city's River North and Streeterville neighborhoods, it provides not only easy access to the city's central business district (The Loop), but to some of the finest restaurants and shopping anywhere in the world.
The Michigan Avenue strip of shopping malls, boutiques, and world-famous department stores is known as the "Magnificent Mile" for good reason Š no other shopping destination can come close. With an address in the Gold Coast, you'll be within walking distance of Marshall Field's, Saks Fifth Avenue, the exclusive malls at Water Tower Place and 900 North Michigan, the world's busiest Apple store, and much more. Towering over the Mile is Hancock Center, the city's unmistakable paean to Modernist architecture and a destination in its own right, featuring not only more shopping, but an observation deck and fine dining with the best view in Chicago.
This area also boasts a dizzying array of restaurants, from understated ethnic restaurants to some of the most celebrated dining in the country. At the high end, Gibson's Steak House is still one of the best places in Chicago to spot celebrities, the Cru Cafˇ and Wine Bar has over 400 varietals, and the French-Influenced Northern Italian cuisine of Pane Caldo is one of the Gold Coast's best kept secrets. For slightly more tradional fare, Gino's East is the self-proclaimed inventor of Chicago-style pizza (a claim that is of course disputed), and one of the best slices in the city.
Add to this the easy access to Lincoln Park, Oak Street Beach, excellent schools, libraries, and universities, and it's easy to see how this famous neighborhood got its name. The Gold Coast really shines.
